How Do Dietitians Make a Difference in Weight Management?
Dietitians play a crucial role in managing obesity by working closely with individuals to develop customized health plans. These plans encompass weight loss goals, strategies to achieve them, and regular counseling sessions to monitor progress and address any obstacles that arise.

Recognizing that nutritional needs vary from person to person, dietitians offer a more tailored approach than generic diet systems. The process typically involves several key steps:

1. Nutrition Assessment: Gathering comprehensive patient information, including nutrition history, lab results, medical background, body measurements, and other pertinent data.
2. Nutrition Diagnosis: Analyzing the collected data to pinpoint problem areas and formulate a diagnosis.

3. Nutrition Intervention: Designing a targeted treatment plan based on the diagnosis.
4. Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuously assessing the effectiveness of the plan and making necessary adjustments to ensure success.

This systematic approach, unique to dietitians, often leads to more effective weight loss and better management of diabetes risk factors compared to non-professional methods.

Our dedicated registered dietitian, Danielle, goes the extra mile by even helping her clients navigate local restaurant menus to ensure they stay on track with their health goals!

  • WHAT IS A REGISTERED DIETICIAN?

Registered dietitians are experts in the disciplines of food and nutrition. They help translate the complex science of nutrition into healthy, and break it down to “real-world” solutions for their clients.

  • WHAT IS THEIR EDUCATION?

Registered dieticians must hold a bachelor's degree that has been earned at a regionally accredited college or university. The degree program must be endorsed by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Most four-year degree programs in dietetics require students to submit proof of completing certain prerequisites including biology, anatomy, chemistry and physiology. All accredited programs will require the student to complete an internship or practicum in a health care facility under the supervision of a registered dietician.

  • WHAT ARE THEIR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS?

There are standard educational and professional requirements for registered dietitians in every state. This includes the completion of at least 1200 hours of supervised practice through a CP or ACEND approved internship.

  • WHERE DO THEY WORK?

Registered dietitians (RD) help educate patients about nutrition and healthy eating practices. For patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, they administer medical nutrition therapy together in conjunction with other health care professionals. Some Registered Dieticians enjoy working in culinary schools, corporate wellness programs, medical spas and professional sports organizations. In general, Registered Dieticians help improve health through encouraging healthier lifestyles and helping you live your best life!
